Newcastle Permanent Community Recognition Award winners announced for July

July 30th, 2021

Northern NSW Football congratulates Macquarie Football’s Newcastle Permanent Community Recognition Award winners for July.

The awards recognise the hard work and significant time volunteers, coaches and match officials contribute to Australia’s largest team sport.

NNSWF Head of Football Development Peter Haynes said the Newcastle Permanent Community Recognition Awards provided an important opportunity to recognise those who make the game what it is today.

“Without this month’s winners football simply would not be in the position it is. Each of these winners has made an outstanding contribution to their clubs and deserve to be recognised,” Haynes said.

“Community football relies on a collective effort and these awards reflect the appreciation extended to everyone who plays a role in progressing our game.

“I am pleased we are able to thank and acknowledge each of them on behalf of the sport thanks to the support of our major sponsor Newcastle Permanent.”

Each of the winners were selected from a number of nominations made by club colleagues and observers of the game. Each winner receives unique packs from official community football partner Newcastle Permanent to help them in their endeavours.

Newcastle Permanent CEO Bernadette Inglis congratulated each of the winners and thanked them for their contribution to the game.

From the pool of monthly winners, Macquarie Football will nominate one winner from each category to represent their zone for the opportunity to be named Newcastle Permanent Community Football Winner of the Year to be announced in October.

Northern NSW Football, Macquarie Football and Newcastle Permanent congratulate all the recipients for July.

Volunteer of the Month
Dainis Masens – Morisset United FC

The Morisset United club president contributes all of his free time to the club.  He is involved every day whether it is at meetings, on the barbecue, in the canteen, opening equipment sheds, coaching or playing.

Dainis never complains and gives everyone in the club his undivided attention. He makes everyone feel welcome and gives the whole organisation a sense of belonging to their community.

Dainis is a wonderful role model for the younger players and coaches. He is dedicated, passionate and committed to Morisset United FC and the club would not run as smooth as it does without him.

Referee of the Month
Dallas Hicks

Dallas started refereeing later in life but thoroughly enjoys it as can be seen by his performances on the park.

His enthusiasm rubs off on other referees and he works hard to carry out a good job on the pitch, with Dallas described as a well-deserving Referee of the Month award recipient.

Coach of the Month
Matt Walker – Dudley Redhead United Senior FC

Matt is a passionate member of Dudley Redhead United Senior FC consistently volunteering his time to support the club from maintenance duties to manning the barbecue and supporting the club’s many charity days.

Matt has recently volunteered his time as coach for Dudley Redhead’s newest women’s team playing in the All Age Women’s H grade competition.

Many of the women have come from Northern NSW Football’s Kick-On for Women program or are mums taking their first steps onto the field doing something they never thought possible.

Matt has proven to be a champion of women’s football having personally advocated the creation of the relatively small club’s third women’s team.

Matt is a patient, empathetic and proactive coach who empowers each member of his team to achieve their personal goals.
