Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) is pleased to announce the Newcastle Permanent Community Referee of the Month for July 2017 across the zones.
“All of this month’s winners have displayed all the attributes of not only a good Match Official but a good member of the Football Family,” NNSWF Community Football Manager Peter Haynes commented.
“Refereeing is often a thankless task but I am very pleased to be able to thank and recognise the efforts of them and look forward to seeing how they all progress as a Match Official into the future,” Haynes concluded.
Each winner will be presented a prize pack including a jacket, cap, water bottle and a referee card set to assist in fulfilling their valuable duties on and off the field.
From the pool of monthly winners, a “Newcastle Permanent Referee of the Year” for each Zone will be recognised at the Northern NSW Football Annual Awards Night.
Newcastle Permanent CEO Terry Millett echoes Haynes’ sentiments and applauds the volunteers who received the award.
“We’re proud to support the volunteers and officials who give their time to ensure the world game is accessible to our youth. Referees improve the player’s experience of the game,” Millett said.
The July Newcastle Permanent Community Referee of the Month Award recipients from across each of its seven Member Zones are as follows:
Football Far North Coast
Neil and Kathalina Parker
Neil and Kathalina have been referees for many years and (with both in their 50’s) and despite neither being appointed to high-level competition, they are reliable, enthusiastic and have given MANY hours over a long period to contribute as match officials. They readily travel “wherever,” asked and their efforts are appreciated. Despite the challenge and sadness in 2017 when Neil lost his mother (cancer that took her life in a matter of months) and Kathalina lost a close relative recently, each have continued to be involved. My view is that this award would be an appropriate recognition.
Patrick Moses
Football Mid North Coast
As a young player and referee since the age of 12, Patrick has progressed with his knowledge and leadership of the game. Patrick at the age of 15 has been called upon to be a match official in men’s premier league.
Pat also has been and hopes to continue to be centre referee in women’s games and WPL games at our Zone Field.
Often he is congratulated by players, coaches, spectators and grounds officials who praise him in his fair conduct and professional appearance and manner in which he officiates the game.
I know that being his mother I am prone to bias, however, Pat has been nominated and reached finalists stages in Young Achievers Awards NSW and also a finalist in the Myall Lakes 2016 Volunteer Young Person of the Year which I believe puts him in the running for this prestigious award hence my nomination for Patrick Moses.
Matthew Southwell
Hunter Valley Football
Matt turns up at 8.30am every Saturday in Singleton to ref or help, even on away games and stays past his allocated games to help out and fill in. He is a great role model for young refs.
Charles Stevens
Macquarie Football
Connor Markovich
Newcastle Football
Connor is a dedicated referee. He is always firm but fair. He trains regularly and is very focused on making the game better. I refereed with him on Friday night at Uni where he was in charge of an AA/B and did a fantastic job, his player management was outstanding also. He is certainly a future A League referee if he chooses refereeing as a career.
Josh Finch
North Coast Football
Josh often stayed for multiple games as a referee since no one else was available. This ensured the games could take place. Great effort and always available when called upon.
Daniel York
Northern Inland
Daniel is a very talented young referee who has been officiating at the top level in NIF since he was 17. Daniel is both approachable and willing to share his experiences and knowledge with younger match officials. He provides all match officials with something to aim for.
