For the first time this season, over 400 players will take part in the Skill Acquisition Program (SAP) Country Gala Day in Taree this weekend.
Kicking off on Saturday 23rd through to Sunday 24th February 2019, 36 teams from across Northern NSW will take part in the annual event.
Teams will be divided into three age groups from Mid North Coast, North Coast and Northern Inland regionally along with metro teams from Hunter Valley, Macquarie Football and NNSWF Newcastle SAP, where they will take part in development based games against each other.
Northern NSW Football Technical Advisor, Leo Bertos, said these Gala Days are a vital element within the SAP.
“The SAP Gala Day’s provide the participating teams with the opportunity to play and test themselves against opponents they would not normally play,” Bertos said.
“It gives country zones the chance to see how their players compare in relation to the players from the metro zones, while also giving the coaches the opportunity to discuss the new SAP Game Intermediate Game (G.I.G) method we are implementing in SAP this year and how their programs are progressing,” he concluded.
The SAP Country Gala Days will be held each month between February and August. The next Gala Day will be held on March 16/17 in Armidale.
