Exciting ties make up 2021 FFA Cup Southern Zone preliminary round four

April 21st, 2021

The Southern Zone preliminary round four draw for the 2021 FFA Cup has thrown up some exciting ties involving teams from up and down the football pyramid.

Northern NSW Football conducted its preliminary round four draw on Wednesday afternoon with the draw broadcast live on social media.

Twenty four clubs representing Community, HIT Northern League One and NPL NNSW football were involved in the draw, with the 10 NPL clubs joining the competition for the first time this season.

In the pick of the ties, the competition’s two remaining Zone League Two representatives were drawn against NPL opposition, as were the final remaining Zone League One club.

Zone League Two’s Minmi Wanderers face an away clash with Valentine FC, four leagues above them in the pyramid, while Bolwarra Lorn will welcome NPL heavyweights Lambton Jaffas to Victoria Road.

The Bushrangers, featuring two-time W-League championship winner Rhali Dobson who recently retired from professional football, could face a Jaffas side including veteran A-League goalkeeper Ben Kennedy as well as two-time NPL golden boot winner Kale Bradbery.

Zone League One club Westlakes Wildcats, who upset HIT Northern League One club South Cardiff in round three, will chase another upset when they face Lake Macquarie City.

Elsewhere, the 2020 NPL and NL1 grand finalists will meet each other.

Reigning HIT Northern League One premiers New Lambton will host reigning NPL premiers and champions Edgeworth, while HIT Northern League One champions Singleton make the trip south to face NPL leaders and 2020 grand finalists Maitland.

Zone Premier League clubs Newcastle Suns, Mayfield United Seniors and Kotara South take on NPL sides Adamstown Rosebud, Weston Workers and Broadmeadow Magic respectively.

Matches will be played on either Tuesday 4 or Wednesday 5 May.
