Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Month Award – May 2016

June 23rd, 2016

Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) is pleased to announce the Newcastle Permanent Volunteers of the Month for May 2016 across the zones.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our game and essential to the success of grassroots football,” Community Football Manager, Peter Haynes said.

Each winner will be awarded a certificate recognising their achievement, volunteer jacket, and bag, courtesy of Newcastle Permanent, to assist in fulfilling their valuable roles at their respective clubs.

From the pool of monthly winners, a “Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Year” for each Zone will be recognised at the Northern NSW Football Annual Awards Night.

“Each of the May winners has been chosen for their contribution and commitment to their club and ensuring that their club is an enjoyable, safe and inclusive place to participate,” Haynes said.

Newcastle Permanent Acting Chief Executive Officer, Shaun Hassall echoes Haynes sentiments and applauds the volunteers who received the award.

“Newcastle Permanent’s Community Football partnership provides opportunities to recognise volunteers who give back so much to their clubs and communities. It is great to see a local being recognised for their ongoing commitment,” Hassall said.

All member clubs will be able to nominate their fantastic volunteers via the link below and provide their details and a brief description of their contribution to football.

We look forward to receiving your nominations for our hard working volunteers!

The May Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Month Award recipients from the seven Member Zones are as follows:

Chelsea Swain

Mayfield United Junior Soccer Football Club

Newcastle Football

Chelsea is the best manager our team could ask for she is so organised and nothing is too much to ask of her. We couldn’t run this team without her and all the hard work she puts in behind the scenes to ensure all our boys get an amazing experience playing the game they love.
From creating our team roster for shirts and fruit, organising transport when needed, liaising with the club and coach and even filling in for the coach when he is not available, there is nothing she can’t do! Chelsea Swain has been a fantastic team manager for both the current and previous soccer seasons for the team, my now 7 year old has had the great fortune of being a part of. Chelsea has a frightening amount of enthusiasm, she is a consummate organiser and producer of timetables, rosters, directions, even parking advice when required for us less disciplined soccer parents. She volunteers her time for the fundraising BBQ’s, the Club meetings and she can be guaranteed to pull together a team to represent the Mayfield Club at any local soccer gala. Additionally, she volunteers her husband to coach our boys in the finer points of the game and jumps in as assistant coach on many (often hilarious) occasions.
Chelsea is a mover and shaker capable of maintaining her good humour even on cold, windy early morning soccer pitches and she is a proud Mayfield United Soccer mama who is an integral part of our team and a tremendous asset to our club and I totally support her nomination for Newcastle Permanent Volunteer of the Month.

Jill Hepburn

Lismore Richmond Rovers Football Club

Football Far North Coast

Jill has been a secretary of this club for over 50 years. Jill is like the hard drive of the club. She knows every meeting, grant, invoice and bill to be paid that is forthcoming. Jill will also do the banking and keeps a track on every $ owing or owed to the club. Jill helps out in the canteen on training days as well. Jill organises progress payments for those struggling to pay fees. Jill attends all Zone meetings. Jill is the hub of our club!

Jules Young

Edgeworth Junior Soccer Club

Macquarie Football

Jules is an outstanding volunteer. Jules alone does all the fundraising for the club, she organized a trivia night on her own and is always the first to put her hand up at club duties, even though she has five small children of her own. She is an outstanding member of the club and community, it’s nice to see someone who really just wants to be helpful with nothing in return.

Joshua Rumsby

Scone Football Club

Hunter Valley Football

My husband continues his passion of football teaching my three sons all about the game, whilst also still playing for Singleton FC. He runs group training sessions for every member of our club and still finds time to cook the BBQ and help set up every week. He loves his club and is passionate about building a strong club for the future.

Catherine Long

Orara Valley Football Club

North Coast Football

Catherine does everything. She has been coordinating and spending a lot of weekend time in the canteen. She mows the field nearly every week. Catherine cleans up change rooms and toilet etc. after the games. She volunteers on other committees in the Valley as well as working midweek. She cooks the BBQ whenever she’s at the games. She’s at most premier league games and doesn’t have any children in those teams.

Brooke Brennan

Guyra Football Club

Northern Inland

Brooke puts her hand up continuously to take on this role and does a magnificent job. Taking on this important role within the club just shows her dedication and commitment to our sport and club. There would be no more worthy recipient of the volunteer of the month award.

Rebecca Buerckner

Wauchope Soccer Club

Football Mid North Coast

Rebecca puts a great deal of time in, as do all volunteers but a lot of the time she puts in is in her work time and many hours in her own time even on holidays.
Rebecca coordinates between the other committee members, and all club members making sure that they are all updated on what is happening. She is supporting the club’s new Secretary as well who is new to the running of the club, so is in need of guidance in some areas, and they are working together to achieve some great outcomes for the children this year.
Rebecca is selfless with her time and tries to get to every event the club organises and helps to organise them all as well. Rebecca is an extremely valuable assets to our club who I believe is deserving of some recognition even though she doesn’t look for it, without her efforts and those of others in our club we wouldn’t be able to provide our community with a club that is family orientated and a safe and enjoyable experience for all our children, as that is what we aim for. So in my eyes as well as others in our committee and its members we would like to be able to say ‘thank you’ in some small way for all her efforts for which we are truly grateful for.
